Taken in Beijing's Summer Palace - the backdrop is a bridge leading to an island in the artificial lake constructed inside the Summer Palace - in the middle of a city of 20 million people.
Yes - and this is only one of several palaces the emperor had - and no-one apart from emperor, concubines, eunuchs could enter these areas on pain of death. That lake is man-made. A little bit of enforced labour.
